[WARC] Winona Amateur Radio Club December meeting Thursdauy

It was a sad day when BBC World Service discontinued their English language broadcasts. Used to listen to them all the time on 5975 kHz. Radio Netherlands, Deutsche Welle, and Monitor Radio were fun, too. Christian Science Monitor had one of the best news services in the world back then.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the info. Does the club have any specific plans for operating in the MNQP yet? That's always a fun event for me--especially getting W0NE in the log on several bands/modes. Feb. 3....
I never did connect with the Yemen group. I tried, but no joy. Couldn't hear them even though I saw lots of others were completing Qs. But while I was trying I snagged the Solomon Islands. Now all I need to do is get the QSO partner to QSL via LoTW. That would make 206 confirmed DXCC QSOs. Now that I have hit 200, I'm more relaxed on the approach to getting more. Not so urgent about it.
Here's hoping you have a good Christmas. God bless.
Oh yes, I may try to Zoom in to the WARC meeting tomorrow night. At least for awhile. SWL was an interest of mine while I was in high school. I assembled a Heathkit AR-3 while in high school and listened to lots of those short wave broadcast stations from my bedroom in west-central Illinois.

“The Voice of the Andes,” “Radio Moscow,” “BBC World Service,” all were a portion of the exciting world on the airwaves for Shortwave Listeners (SWL). The adventure of shortwave listening is still out there as we’ll learn at the December meeting of the Winona Amateur Radio Club, 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21.
