I watched K0NY's Zoom recording of the discussion about improving our club
online/Zoom production. I provide live streaming video production for my
church and have dealt with some of the issues that were discussed in the
Zoom meeting.
Specifically, I am familiar with some of the video equipment and
implementation through trial and error in configuring and installing our
church equipment. The equipment our club would be looking at would be
significantly less expensive than what I setup for church. However, the
production and presentation issues have some common areas and requirements.
Mainly, we want clear and full coverage of the video environment associated
with a given meeting topic. In our club meeting that would typically mean
video coverage of the members present, the speaker or presenter(s). Also,
video coverage of presentation materials and support material as
appropriate.
There was some discussion on sound that I think can be handled with the
included microphones on the video camera. Or, if not acceptable, I have a
broadcast quality 360-degree desk mike that I would be willing to loan to
the club for our meetings. My personal belief is that we should focus on the
video presentation. That means a reliable and capable video camera and a
production plan that delivers the video to the Zoom app. Clare asked that I
provide a list of "affordable" cameras that would meet our video production
requirements needs; and, also meet our budget limits.
I am not an expert video camera or operator but here are 3 possibilities
that might work for us. (Personally, I think the first selection would be my
recommendation).:
Logitech BCC950
Price: $148 to $249
Where to buy: Logitech, Amazon
The Logitech BCC950 features an all-in-one design that combines HD video and
crystal-clear audio. The omnidirectional mic pickup and duplex speakerphone
allow all meeting attendees to hear and be heard up to six to eight feet
away. For better visibility, position the spherical HD webcam on an
eye-level stand using its extender stem. It works with almost any video
conferencing software, including Zoom, Fuze, and Skype for Business.

Logitech MeetUp
Price: $640 to $879
Where to buy: Logitech, Amazon
If your team regularly conducts hybrid meetings within small rooms and
cramped spaces, the Logitech Meetup is your ideal video conferencing device.
The camera features a super-wide 120-degree field of view and motorized
pant/tilt lens, allowing everyone to be seen, even those seated at the edge
of the room. Three beamforming mics and a custom-tuned speaker deliver an
impressive audio and listening experience.

Another subject discussed on the Zoom meeting dealt with the computer used.
I strongly agree that we should acquire/fabricate a computer that would be
used for club events such as Zoom meetings. There also might be some value
to use it during events such as field day or MnQP. I have a simple
recommendation that should suit us well for some number of years:
Intel I7 CPU (or on the cheap: a high-end Ryzan CPU) with a minimum of 3.5
Ghz or ideally 4.5 Ghz or better speed; RAM 12GB minimum or ideally 16GB (or
better). OS is MS win 11 (pro would be ideal).
*(I apologize to the Linux and Apple folks but unfortunately [or not] we
live in a Microsoft world when it comes to consumer apps).
73,
Marv
